These stunning areas of Scotland have everything the trekker could wish for, amazing mountain scenery, tranquil valleys and sparkling lochs. On this Beyond Expeditions trek we will explore this ancient and mythical land with its colourful history of clan murder and intrigue. As with all Beyond Expeditions treks we carry only our backpacks whilst everything else is transported for you. We combine the best of camping adventure and local accommodation to bring you a trek that will live in the memory forever.
A word of caution: This trek is designed for the more experienced and adventurous trekkers. It is not recommended for inexperienced walkers, elderly or children. Please contact us at info@beyondexpeditions.com if you have any questions or concerns. .
Day One:
We begin this adventure in the historic town of Fort William where we will meet and get acquainted. After morning tea, which, weather permitting, will be served by our support team, we drive south towards the haunting valley of Glen Coe for our first night's camp. A few drinks in the world famous climber's pub, The Clachaig, followed by a first relaxing night under the stars.
The next three days will be spent exploring the stark rugged beauty of the glen. Various summits will be scaled, weather permitting. This remote area of Scotland must be treated with the utmost respect, it is therefore impossible to guarantee which summits will be attempted as your safety is our primary concern. Every effort will be made to ensure that alternative treks are available.
Day Two:
Whilst Beyond Expeditions is not a Munro bagging expedition there is certainly the chance to scale some of these giants of the Scottish landscape and today we start with one of the most beautiful and perhaps one of the most photographed, Buachaille Etive Mor. A good day's walking will be rewarded by the spectacular views from the summit of the 1022 mt (3372ft) peak of Stob Dearg . A truly amazing experience, and one not to be missed. Time, weather and fitness permitting we may also ‘bag' a second Munro, that of Stob na Broige. The descent will take us back to the valley floor and a walk along the banks of the river Coupall back the support vehicle at Altnafeadh. Weary but well satisfied we can enjoy the delights of a home cooked evening meal and a good, well deserved, night's rest.
Day Three:
After breakfast we will venture a little closer to ‘home' and make the ascent of Sgorr nam Fiannaidh 967 mt (3120 ft). From here we overlook the amazing, and in places terrifying ridge of Aonach Eagch. If the weather permits we will also be treated to spectacular views overlooking Loch Leven as it makes its way towards Kinlochleven. Sadly the town itself is obscured by the bulk of Garbh Bheinn. Our return takes us conveniently past the Clachaig hotel which could only mean yet another perfect end to a perfect day in the beautiful valley of Glen Coe .
Day Four:
This morning we take a short drive down the valley and head along the shores of Loch Etive. There are a number of amazing peaks to be had in this area and much will depend on the weather conditions. Rest assured we shall see spectacular scenery wherever we trek. Our last night in the Glen and it's a celebratory pint or two before we turn in.
Day Five:
Today we travel back towards Fort William and the mighty peak of Ben Nevis . At 1344mts (4435ft) Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles and certainly not a mountain to be taken lightly. Before we tackle this giant we'll take a well-earned rest. There are plenty of shops, cafes and pubs in Fort William to make the day of it before we meet again in the evening for our home cooked dinner.
Day Six:
After an early breakfast and packing our bags for the ascent it off to conquer the mighty Ben Nevis . The Ben is easily accessible via several routes and one will be chosen on the day depending upon the weather conditions and any other factor thought necessary by our trek leaders. This mountain has a reputation for rapidly changing weather conditions and despite the fact that the day may appear beautiful at the base it may be a very different picture on the summit itself. As with all Beyond Expeditions treks it is the safety of its clients that are of prime concern. We do not, and will not take unnecessary risks. The mountains can be dangerous places to be in when things go wrong, or precautions haven't been taken. We therefore maintain the right to alter all of any of our routes should it bee in the best interests of all parties concerned. This particularly applies on Ben Nevis . Every effort will be made to ensure that every member of this Beyond Expeditions trek will have the chance to summit the Ben safely.
Day Seven:
Our final day. This morning we shall have a large and leisurely breakfast in the shadow of Ben Nevis . After breakfast transport will be provided to take us into Fort William , where there is a British rail train station and a regular bus service back to Glasgow .
